Mikayla brings 4 years of experience in emergency and ICU veterinary care. Originally from Liberty, NC, Mikayla has had a deep passion for animals from a young age. Her love for animals was fostered by a special bond with her family’s Rottweiler, Gypsy, who became fiercely protective of Mikayla during her mother’s pregnancy and continued to be her constant companion as she grew up. This connection was instrumental in Mikayla’s desire to work in the veterinary field.

Mikayla’s background includes a B.S. in Public Health with a pre-clinical concentration from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington (UNCW), where she also studied Biology and Assistance Dog Training. During college, she trained assistance dogs, a fulfilling experience that remains close to her heart. As a “puppy raiser,” she helped socialize and train dogs from 3 weeks old until they were ready to be placed with their new owners, a process that Mikayla describes as one of her most rewarding accomplishments.

When she’s not at work, Mikayla enjoys spending time outdoors, especially by the water—whether it’s a lake, beach, or pool. She also loves reading and cherishes moments with her two dogs, Penelope, a 2-year-old chocolate lab, and Louie, a 5-month-old golden retriever.

Mikayla’s commitment to both animals and their owners is evident in her approach to veterinary care, where she uses her experience in emergency and ICU settings to provide compassionate, high-quality service. Mikayla leads the team at UrgentVet North Raleigh where they treat minor injuries and illnesses in dogs and cats.
