April brings a diverse and dynamic background to her role as Practice Manager, combining experience in both human and veterinary medicine with a deep understanding of animal behavior. Originally from Maynard, Massachusetts, April began her career in human healthcare before transitioning into working with animals as a master groomer and behavioral trainer, specializing in anxious and aggressive dogs. Missing the medical aspect of care, she was encouraged to explore veterinary medicine—and quickly found her passion.
April has since gained experience across general practice, urgent care, emergency medicine, surgery, grooming, and training, giving her a well-rounded perspective on patient care and clinic operations. She also pursued her undergraduate studies at Framingham State University before transferring to Harvard University, and has completed additional veterinary technician training through Penn Foster.
One of April’s most meaningful memories is with a dog named Jib, who was known to be aggressive with others. Unaware of his history at first, April was able to connect with him during a grooming session, earning his trust in a way that surprised everyone. Over the years, she built a special bond with him. When it came time for Jib’s family to say goodbye, they brought him to spend time with April—someone they felt truly understood him. It remains a powerful reminder of the impact compassion and patience can have.
At home, April lives with her fiancée, Leah, and their lively group of pets, including two dogs, Willow and Peony; a cat named Winnie; and four pet rats—Ash, Cedar, Sprout, and Clover. Outside of work, she enjoys playing video games, spending time on or near the water, traveling, and being with her animals. A classically trained flautist, April also teaches music to children in her spare time.
April is passionate about creating a safe and supportive environment for pets of all temperaments, and she is dedicated to helping both her team and pet parents at UrgentVet Beverly feel confident, informed, and cared for.
