Born and raised in Lithonia, GA, Melissa found her calling in the veterinary field through a childhood spent surrounded by animals. Inspired by her time volunteering at the Honolulu Zoo, where she discovered the role of a veterinary technician, Melissa knew from an early age that her passion lay in caring for animals.

One of Melissa’s favorite memories is clicker training a bear at the zoo in Athens, highlighting her deep connection and affinity for understanding animal behavior. She pursued her education at the University of Georgia (Go Dawgs!), where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, before furthering her studies at Athens Technical College, where she obtained an Associate’s degree in Veterinary Technology.

Outside of her work at UrgentVet, Melissa enjoys watching her daughter play soccer, indulging in reading sessions, and playing the piano. At home, she shares her space with her husband Ryan, daughter Lily, and their beloved pets: Jim the Labradoodle and her two Yorkies named Kevin and Ted.

With 18 years of experience in the veterinary field, Melissa has worked across various areas including behavior, emergency, and general practice. Leveraging her expertise in animal behavior, she prioritizes making pets feel comfortable and safe, ensuring that they receive the utmost care and attention.

Melissa leads a team at UrgentVet Johns Creek that treats non-life threatening emergencies in cats and dogs.
