Dominique “Nikki” Lafontant, a native of West Palm Beach, FL, discovered her passion for the veterinary field at a young age, inspired by the miracle of life she witnessed when her childhood dog gave birth. This early fascination fueled her desire to learn about ensuring the health and well-being of newborn puppies.
Nikki pursued her education with determination, earning her Veterinary Assistant Certification at Pima Medical in Chula Vista, California. She furthered her academic journey by obtaining an Associate’s in Animal Science at City College in Hollywood, FL, in May 2018. That same year, Nikki achieved her Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) designation, solidifying her commitment to providing top-notch care for animals.
With a decade of experience in the veterinary field, including 8 years as an RVT, Nikki has built a diverse skill set through roles in General Practice, Integrative Medicine, Emergency, and Critical Care. Her dedication to the well-being of animals extends beyond the workplace, as evidenced by her favorite memory – camping along the California coast with her wife, two cats, three dogs, and two rats.
Outside of UrgentVet, Nikki indulges in her love for reading, gardening, and making loose-leaf tea from herbs grown in her garden. Her interests also extend to astrology, astronomy, and stargazing with her telescope, reflecting a curious and multifaceted personality.
At home, Nikki shares her life with her amazing wife, a funny 11-year-old son, three black cats (Aman, Cosmo, and Einstein), a standard poodle named Zhuri, a sweet chihuahua named Churro, and a bearded dragon named Dracarys. Fun facts about Nikki include her service in the United States Navy and the unique experience of living on an aircraft carrier for six months.
With Nikki’s wealth of experience, compassionate approach to veterinary care, and diverse interests, she enriches the UrgentVet team, offering exceptional support to both furry patients and their dedicated owners.
Nikki leads a team at UrgentVet Kennesaw where they treat minor injuries and illnesses in cats and dogs.
