Your Pet Will Love These New Year’s Resolutions

We have some new year’s resolutions for you and your pet this year, and we think your pet is going to be happy about it! While humans make resolutions for the new year, our pets need us to think of them as well! We decided to compile a list of resolutions that are good for you and your pet! Here’s to making 2017 the year that you and your pet become closer than ever!

More walks and longer walks!

According to the Association for Pet Obesity Prevention, 53% of adult dogs and 55% of cats in the US are obese or overweight. 22% of dog owners and 15% of cat owners said their pet’s weight was normal when it was actually overweight or obese. It’s time to manage your pet’s food and get them back in shape! Longer walks will not only help manage your pet’s weight and keep them happy; it’s good for you too!

You and your dog need an adventure.

Dogs love to go on their usual walk around your neighborhood, but they love adventures even more! Whether it’s a lovely trail, a beautiful dog park, or a dog-friendly hike – your dog will love you for taking them somewhere new! Not to mention, adventure is great for the mind and body! Belmont is a beautiful city with tons of dog-friendly options, explore with your furry best friend.

Less screen time and more affection.

Work, life, technology, social media, and other distractions can sometimes take attention away from our little loved ones. This year, put down the phone, turn off the TV, and make sure to give your pet the attention and love they deserve. There is always time to watch your favorite TV show, but this year be sure to provide them with the extra 30-60 minutes of attention when you can. They’ll love you for it!

Your pet’s health should be a priority!

Your pet should see their primary veterinarian at least once a year! Like you, it’s important that your pet sees a doctor for routine checkups, as well as maintains a strict vaccination schedule. Focusing on your pet’s health lets us treat them in precaution mode instead of reaction mode. In the long-run, you’ll spend a lot less money keeping them healthy than healing them from an illness.

Focus on grooming.

You know that feeling you get when you take a nice shower, brush your teeth, and get ready for a night out? Your pet’s love it too! This year, help them feel their best by getting into the routine of brushing their teeth, cleaning their ears, bathing them, and brushing as often as possible. A clean pet is a happy pet.
