Alana Porterfield
Practice Manager
Alana brings 28 years of veterinary experience, including 19 as a Licensed Veterinary Technician. Originally from Ontario, Canada, Alana has always been passionate about animals, rescuing and caring for stray and orphaned animals from a young age. Over the years, she’s worked in general practice, emergency care, specialty medicine, and toxicology, including time at a 24/7 Emergency & Specialty Hospital and a Pet Poison Control Center.
One of Alana’s most memorable experiences was taking her therapy dog to nursing homes, where she witnessed the healing power of animals bringing joy to residents. Alana is committed to providing compassionate care, treating every animal with love and respect.
Outside of work, Alana enjoys spending time with her husband and three kids, as well as training her Bullmastiff, Sullivan, who she hopes to certify as a therapy dog. Alana also loves playing the violin and has even gone skydiving!
With her vast experience and passion for animal care, Alana is dedicated to making UrgentVet Chesapeake a place of comfort and healing for both pets and their owners.
