At Your Service
Anita Barker
Practice Manager
Anita has dedicated over 20 years to the veterinary field, bringing a wealth of experience and passion for animal care. Raised in Poplar Grove, Illinois, Anita has always had a deep connection with animals. Her childhood was filled with a variety of pets, from domestic animals to farm animals and even wildlife. Her father, knowing her nurturing spirit, allowed her to raise and care for an assortment of creatures, from baby mice to a beloved raccoon named Spot. This early experience shaped her lifelong commitment to animals and ignited her desire to work in the veterinary field.
Anita pursued her love for biology and zoology with studies at Rock Valley College in Rockford, IL, and Colorado State University in Fort Collins, CO. Over the years, she has worked in diverse areas of the veterinary industry, including general practice, emergency care, specialty orthopedics, grooming, dog training, and wildlife rescue.
Outside of her professional life, Anita enjoys a variety of hobbies such as crafting, baking, nature hikes, and camping. She also loves spending time with her extensive menagerie, which includes her wife, Andrea, their Great Dane Maizee, Dachshund mix Paxton, Jack Russell Terrier mix Cookie, Yorkie Poo Linus, two hairless guinea pigs (Mya and Mr. Nibbles), four turtles, 16 koi fish, a saltwater tank with several exotic species, and even four red devil crabs.
Anita’s passion for animals extends beyond her work at UrgentVet, and she’s known for her boundless enthusiasm, her love for frogs (which she’s somewhat obsessed with), and her knack for creating things through crafting. Her experience in multiple areas of the veterinary field, combined with her hands-on love for animals, makes her an invaluable resource for both the team at UrgentVet Naperville and the families she serves.
