Debra Gusman

Growing up, Debra has always loved animals and was consistently surrounded by all sorts of critters.
Later in life, Debra attended Florida Atlantic University (FAU) where she received her bachelor’s degree in psychology. During this time, she had the rare opportunity to work with dolphins during several internship opportunities. After graduating, she was able to live out her lifelong dream as a dolphin trainer! Following her time in the marine mammal world, Debra became a zookeeper. Here she had the regularly observed the veterinary staff working with wildlife. This was the moment in her career where she truly felt her calling to veterinary medicine.
Debra says she loves the challenge and how the field is continually evolving – so becoming a veterinary technician just made sense because it provided the perfect mix of animals and medicine. She followed this calling to Stanford Brown College in South Florida where she earned her AS degree in veterinary technology and became a Registered Veterinary Technician.
Since then, Debra has slowly made her way to the mountains of Colorado and has not looked back! She is passionate about training, teaching, having humor in and out of the workplace, innovative medicine and most importantly – caring for pets. She’s proud to lead one of UrgentVet’s first Colorado clinics.
Debra resides in the Denver area with her partner, James, their 11-year young German Shephard named Autumn and their terror of a cute pup named Tuna! In her free time, she enjoys hiking and exploring the scenic views of Colorado, camping, reading, and trying new eats.
